...AND GO!!! |
This new form will allow you to introduce any postcode just with a finger. Circled arrows will move to next/previous digit, whilst up/down arrows will move from A-Z/0-9 or Z-A/9-0 Now a postcode can be introduced even whilst walking or under other difficult circumstances where to do it with a stylus would nearly be impossible. Plus the new form "speaks" with the classical one (see above), so what is typed in one is typed in both of them. |

BUT... TAKE CARE, IT CAUSES ADDICTION |

Unzip and open it with Word Pad, search for any postcode you like. Of course, there are not coordinates in this list, sure you can guess why.... -> |

Uk Postcode to TomTom Navigator (ukpc2ttn) is a external tool that communicates with TomTom Navigator (v.2 and 3). It allows you to introduce a full UK post code in a special screen, get the geographical coordinates for it (latitude and longitude) and to feed TTN with them and showing the point in the map. When this is the main feature you will have extra features like: Navigate to the postcode and, if your version of TTN is 3 or above to create and Itineray just introducing post codes. That last is a special one for those customers that are planning a trip or are professionals of transportation or delivering goods in sectors like couriers, multidrop drivers, etc. Go to top
One of the missing features in TTN is the ability to search a destination point through the full post code. It only allows to introduce the first group of digits followed of the first digit of the second group. Let's say you are looking for the post code RG21 7LY, your better approach with TTN will be RG21 7. This means that later you will need to perform a search through the streets that have that part of the postcode you're looking for. But as soon you move your list down some versions of TTN starts to show different post codes of the one was introduced making the search more "tricky" as TomTom shows the list sorted not in alphabetical order if not sorted by the distance between your actual position and the items on the list.. To avoid those problems and to get the full functionality of a full post code is why this program was designed for.
As said before it is a external application. It means that needs to be called by you, tapping on its icon. Wherever you call it, before or after you're running TTN doesn't matter. The program itself can be stored in main memory or just in a memory card, that's up to you and your machine. No body knows your machine better than you. The program is small and quick enough to be stored and running in a memory card. The time to get the information is less than one second in mostly of machines. After inputing a full postcode the program will search it in its database, containing in this moment 1,866 millions post codes that makes it practically the full UK coverage. The database is a customized one. Compressed up to the technical limits and indexed to make it very very quick. To make you more clear what all this means there is a sample about a simple record: SP1 1BW -1,79664 51,07064 That would be the record if you need to read it, the post code (can be up to 7 digits) and longitude and latitude (8 digits each). So that means that 23 digits should be needed to store a single record and that produces for 1.86 millions of records a file about 45 Mb. To reduce the size of the file special techniques of compression were applied so the database is just below 20 Mb. And that's my "magic" if you want to say it. When the coordinates for a given postcode are found they are sent to TTN. To allow that a library TTN Control OCX must be charged in the Pocket PC. That library's owner is TomTom (formerly PalmTop), the company that made TTN and is a special tool that allow external program to communicate with TTN. |

And... how it works in plain language? Oh... sorry, I missunderstand you before, it's that how... Let's see... When the program is started you will see on your device a screen like the one on right I think is enough self explanatory. Just a text box where you can introduce the post code your are after. A logo and some stuff relative to version and register. And finally on the top right corner a green button with a clear meaning. So now you tap in the text box and automatically the keyboard will appear on the screen. See the images below. |
||
The image on left is what you get after you tap on the "Search it!!!" button. As you can see there are the coordinates, latitude and longitude and four new buttons. Tapping in "Show on map" will send those coordinates to TTN, even if it's not running, and showing the point on the map. |
||
Results after "Show on map" |
Results after "Navigate to" |
In the images on left you can see the different results after tapping one of the buttons "Show on map" or "Navigate to". The second one will produce automatically a question by TTN, about the origin point. But I need to suppose you fluent with TTN, so you will know that. When you want to make an itinerary you need to introduce every point as "Send to Itinerary" and just the last one you will tap "Finish Itinerary". Those buttons don't produce any reaction by TTN as the itinerary is a special file that is recorded in TTN configuration folder. You'll need to start TTN, if it is not running, and to go to itinerary screen. |
Even when the images contain TTN screen shots in Spanish I don't think you have any problem with the meaning of them. Above left is the selection of Itinerary screen in TTN. Center, tapping and holding menu appears where the option "Load" must be selectioned. Above right all the files stored in the configuration folder of TTN as itineraries are shown and the one is created by ukpc2ttn has this name. Tap on it and the next screen, right, will be something similar to this one. You can see the different post codes that where introduced and the last one as final point. |

Any person whising to have a powerfull tool that allows to use a huge database without any extra cost like slowing down the system. But mainly the program was developed by a person working as courier, so it try to cover the day to day working routine for a courier or multidrop driver. In the real practice it will save every day about 1 to 2 hours of searching for addresses. And it is not only the time you save looking for any address. It is too, and surely more important, the time it saves reaching the place in a so accurate maner that a 90% of the cases when TTN say you "Arrival" you will park your vehicle in the stepdoor of the building you were going to. That is because the UK post code is a very precise tool, that mostly of the times covers jus a few houses.
Are there more similar programs? To be honest I only know just one. The one that gave me the idea, UKPOSTCODE , but it only shows on map the post code you tap. The author seems to be very busy and doesn't offers any scheduled updates. I tried a couple times to contact the author, even sending money to him, but not yet answer. And in my opinion a tool like this one needs to be updated at least every single year, because new codes are created and old ones changed.
So, what are the other items I can see being sold over the internet? I just bought one to check it. All the records in the OV2 files made 1.545.463 postcodes and 916 were repeated, so only 1.544.547 postcodes able. The OV2 files given for free at PocketGPS World made 1.678.621 postcodes usables. The database I started my project with. And currently is a different one, more updated and accurated, holding 1.866.638 working postcodes Sincerely, mostly of them are a fraud. No by the items themselves. A fraud because they are not programs sorting a situation. They are just files that TTN can read straight, OV2 files. And a fraud if you want too because the information contained can be obtained for free in some specialized places. Mostly of the time, those so self named authors are only collecting that information and offering it to you as if it was their creation. This kind of files is just a special format that TTN can read. Usually they are used to store geographical information about places, like petrol station, radar cameras, cash machines... etc. You can have as many of them you want, that's true, but it is true too that if you activate a lot of them to be watched by TTN this program tends to slow down and many times, depending on your machine and its memory, to freeze the full system. That's why no body offers an OV2 file containing the full database, TTN freezes if there is a OV2 file with more than 5 or 6 Mb size. If not the full database could be easily sold as OV2. If you don't believe me just have a look on PocketGPS place. And to avoid you more job find here another link to one of its pages containing links to all the stuff you can need. Over there you will find FOR FREE, mostly of the software that a few unscrupulous persons try to sell in places like EBAY, inclusive the program for traffic cameras detection, CheckPoint and its files OV2.
How then can I be sure what I'm buying? I cannot tell you what to do with your money. My rule is simple. Not to buy words, not to buy anithing without be tested first. Until be sure I will have support if needed. Until be sure it will be updated if needed. My offer is a program that is alive. Developing, growing and with updated databases, you have above my numbers for databases, ask the same to other sellers. To make you sure about what are you intending to buy try my program for free over 15 days fully functional with no limits. If you need more time for some special reason let me know. We'll arrange an agreement. We, all, are here for business. Whilst you're testing it I will give you full support. Leave a message in ebay an you will get my answer. As well you can go to the program forum to read other comments or to leave yours or your troubles: UKPC2TTN Forum |

I'm aware of some people buying products and trying to sell them with not any right. To avoid this the program, database, OV2 files and other related stuff have been deposited and copyrighted with The Uk Copyright Service. If you think you bought a database (or OV2 files) that could be a copy of these, please contact me. They are easy to recognize as they don't use space in middle of the postcode and have Northern Ireland postcodes, missed in the rest that are copies of those free files hanging in the internet. But there are more controls on them that cannot be revealed obviously. If you report one and results to be a copy of these you will be rewarded with a copy of Geopostcode original OV2 files or UKPC2TTN program (1 years license) up to your choice. |
